Where Natural Material Meets Everyday Function
This sculpture table was the second table created by d’Almeida and became an important stage in learning how resin behaves and how it can interact with natural wood. The olive wood slice had an incomplete contour, with one section already cut away. Rather than hiding this interruption, d’Almeida designed it into the piece as a small functional recess that can hold everyday objects or support a mobile phone without requiring a case or additional support behind it. The table was also conceived as a practical companion to an individual living-room sofa. In the areas where the wood naturally opened, natural stones were introduced into the resin, deliberately extending beyond its surface so their textures can be seen and felt by hand. The custom-designed steel structure follows the geometry of the tabletop towards its outer points, while the wood retains as much of its natural bark and character as possible. The wood is finished with mineral oil, allowing it to retain its natural appearance and the characteristic scent of olive wood.
