Spiral Reborn
A Spiral Within Reconstruction
At the centre of this artwork, an oval section of ancient olive wood has been divided into small fragments and carefully reassembled using d’Almeida’s Reconstruction Technique — his own approach to the Kintsugi concept in wood. The pieces were brought together so closely that the reconstruction remains almost hidden, preserving the natural presence of the original wood while giving it a new form. Its natural cavities and the spaces between the fragments are filled with black epoxy resin and glitter in different tones, creating subtle paths of light across the composition. Around the olive wood, shale stones form a sea-like landscape, with some left in their natural state and others covered with resin. At the centre, a spiral is recessed into the resin, drawing the eye inward and creating a distinct sense of depth. The decision to remove the wooden frame was made so that another wooden element would not compete with the beauty of the olive wood, giving the artwork a cleaner and more contemporary presence. What began as a piece destined to become firewood was instead reconstructed into something intended to be seen, explored and experienced.
