Where the Root Leads
reated from two sections of the same root of a centuries-old olive tree, Rooted Visions explores how far a natural form can lead the imagination. Unlike most of d’Almeida’s wall artworks, which are developed from more circular sections of timber, these pieces were cut longitudinally, revealing the flowing veins of the root rather than its rings. d’Almeida preserved their original contours as much as possible, extending one broken area to complete the form in harmony with what was already there. From certain angles, the resulting shapes may suggest two rays, faces, animal-like forms or entirely different figures — each interpretation belongs to the viewer. The contrast between the two elements is intentional: one remains visible as finely sanded, oiled olive wood, while the other is finished with glossy epoxy resin. Set within black resin, golden and blue glitter, diamond-like stones and shale, the natural forms become a landscape where material and imagination meet.
