Reconstructed Time
Where Time Became a Technique
Created in 2022 for his own living room, this handcrafted wall clock began with a simple personal need: d’Almeida wanted a clock that belonged naturally within his home. Made from olive wood taken from the same tree used for an earlier round table, the piece became something far more significant. As the wood dried, it naturally developed cracks and began separating into five sections. Rather than resisting the process, d’Almeida carefully extended the existing breaks before precisely bringing the pieces back together. The openings were then filled with black epoxy resin, preserving the character of the fractured wood while giving the reconstructed form a new coherence. This was the first artwork made through what would become d’Almeida’s Reconstruction Technique — the starting point for a process that would inspire future works. The result is an elegant functional artwork in which natural transformation, deliberate intervention and the passage of time meet in a single circular form.
