Where Natural Form Becomes Familiar
Created from a single piece of root wood from a very old olive tree, Recognition begins with a natural form that needed very little intervention to become a striking functional artwork. Its irregular contours are deliberately preserved, allowing the wood itself to remain the dominant element. The surface is sanded to an exceptionally fine 3000+ grit and treated with linseed oil, bringing out the natural colour and character of the olive wood while protecting it for indoor use. Glossy clear epoxy appears on the sides and underside, contrasting with the natural matte surface, while black matte epoxy fills selected openings. The sculpted black resin feet follow the contours of the wood as though extending from it, with subtle gold flecks that reveal themselves in the right light. The resulting form can be experienced not only as a coffee table, but as an artwork that invites the viewer to recognise familiar shapes within its natural contours.
