Fragmented Continuum
A Single Work in Nine Movements
Created as a single artwork composed of nine 30 × 30 cm pieces, Fragmented Continuum began with a dry section of a still-living olive tree. Rather than treating the material simply as wood to be shaped, d’Almeida saw an opportunity to explore the same visual language used in his larger works on a smaller scale, while introducing a sense of movement across several pieces. The first work opens with exposed wood surrounded by vibrant colour, suggesting an emergence into space. The seven central pieces then progressively separate and return, their fragments moving from expansion towards convergence, with rivers of shimmer emerging through the darkness. In the final piece, everything has converged and the wood is completely enclosed within resin and layered shimmer. Together, the nine artworks form one continuous passage between dispersion, reunion and suspension.
