Fractured Harmony

Where the Wood Found Its Way Back Together

Fractured Harmony began with d’Almeida’s desire to create his first wall artwork while allowing the natural contours of the wood to remain at the heart of the piece. The artwork was made from a slice of a centuries-old holm oak, rescued from a woodpile where it had been destined for firewood. After being planed, the wood naturally separated into seven pieces. Rather than forcing the fragments back into an invisible union, d’Almeida chose to preserve the fractures and rebuild the original form around them. Black epoxy resin holds the pieces together, while shimmering rivers of clear resin flow beneath the wooden surface, carrying predominantly silver and gold tones through the gaps and creating a striking sense of depth. At the centre, their convergence surrounds a diamond-like stone, bringing the fractured elements together in a composition where separation becomes part of the harmony.
