Elemental Gaze
A Natural Form, Pushed Beyond Recognition
Elemental Gaze emerged after several days of looking closely at a rescued piece of ancient olive wood and gradually discovering the natural drawing already contained within its form. Rather than reshaping the wood, d’Almeida worked to extract what was there, filling its natural gaps and refining its surface while preserving the contours of the tree, including part of its root. Small stone elements were introduced to reinforce what the form seemed to suggest, allowing a face-like presence to emerge without ever becoming literal. Behind it, layers of black bio-based resin, transparency and fine glitter particles create a reflective depth that changes with the light and the viewer’s position. Around the work, a deliberate frame of shale stones adds another layer of intervention — a strong visual decision intended to create impact and make the piece stand apart from d’Almeida’s other wall artworks.
