Echoes from the Core
When the Frame Gives Way to the Wood
Echoes from the Core marks a new direction in d’Almeida’s exploration of wall-based artworks, bringing together the visual language of his framed pieces with the organic presence of a wall sculpture. The olive wood at its centre was rescued from a tree brought down by a storm and later allowed to dry naturally, developing the radial opening that became the defining structure of the work. Rather than enclosing this natural form within a rectangular or square composition, d’Almeida allowed the outer contour to follow the wood itself. Around the fractured centre, a deep black mirrored resin surface extends the composition, while sparkling rivers emerge from the core, continuing a visual language developed in his earlier wall artworks. The result is a more fluid and organic form, where the boundary of the artwork is no longer imposed by a frame, but determined by the material itself.
