A New Scale for d’Almeida
This wall artwork brings together a naturally shaped slice of olive wood from a tree more than a century old, set against a deep black mirrored surface. Shale stones surround the wood at an offset, while a sea of resin filled with shimmering particles in different tones completes the composition.
The wood was originally destined to become firewood. d’Almeida chose instead to preserve its natural form within an artwork, giving it a new life that could be appreciated for decades to come. At 80 × 70 cm, the piece also marked d’Almeida’s exploration of a more contained format, being the smallest wall artwork he had created at the time.
