Behind the Pieces, Behind the Scenes
You see the finished piece. Then you see the photograph. Between the two, there is a whole other kind of work.
For this photoshoot, Paulo d’Almeida’s world moved beyond the workbench. A full day, stretching well into the night, was dedicated to finding ways to capture what makes each piece special: the grain of the wood, its textures, its presence, and the details that deserve a closer look.
Behind an artist is a team bringing different eyes and ideas to the same vision. There is preparation, equipment to set up, pieces to position, light to adjust, and that familiar phrase: “Just one more shot.”
Then another. Because sometimes a small change makes all the difference.
These photographs offer a glimpse of that shared effort. The concentration, the conversations, the laughter between shots, and the hours that pass almost unnoticed when everyone is absorbed in what they are doing.
Working with wood is at the heart of Paulo’s practice. Bringing that work to the world takes its own time, care, and creativity.
And, on this occasion, a very long day.
